There are a few different ways to go about applying a "spray on tan" in today's sunless tanning market.this is how uv free airbrush tanning is done   You may buy a "tan in a can" or lotion in a bottle for less than $50 which you apply to your skin to turn the dead skin layer brown or you can buy an air brush tan system for less than $500, which includes everything you need to spray yourself  manually with the DHA chemical using the same type of system that body artists, cake decorators, and auto body shops employ.

This airbrushing technique is more preferred by most people because of the personal attention and spa type feel of this sunless tanning experience. The salon owner may charge more for this type of session versus the automatic spray booth type and even sell packages which "combine" the automatic and manual applications, using the airbrush system for "touch up".  The Magic Tan MT3500 has an optional airbrush tanning attachment just for this reason and marketing concept. Check out the used Magic Tan MT3500 with optional air brush attachment for sale here.

If you are not familiar with the sunless tanning process... there is a FDA approved chemical called DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) which interacts with your dead skin layer to turn it this is how your uv free sunless tan from an airbrush tan system will look, click to enlarge photobrown (not orange...urban legend).  Keep in mind, that this is your "dead skin" layer that sheds every day depending on your hygiene and exfoliation habits.  Therefore, if you exfoliate and hydrate your skin (see hydration station) prior to a sunless tan your "tan" or dead skin layer will last 5-7 days.  It is becoming very common to combine UV tanning with sunless spray tanning to meet customer's desires to "cut back" on the UV exposure and to tan their face and other areas you normally would not expose to UV light.

In summary, if you would like to offer your customers a "UV free" or "sunless" tan option your options are:  offer sunless tanning lotions for about $50, get an airbrush tan system for less than $500, buy a used spray tan booth for $5k-$10k, or a combination of all 3 to help increase salon revenue.
